Description

Historical note:

The Romans perfected the ‘Square Capitals’ majuscule which, in written form (Quadrata or Written Square Capitals), was used from around the 2nd century AD. If used for whole documents then it was usually written without word spacing or punctuation; by the medieval period, its use was restricted to displayed matter. The square style was highly legible and, when used in inscriptional form (Capitales Monumentales), became the standard by which legibility is still judged today. Note the letters F and L rise above the line.
